Health, safety, environment and long-term strategy
Refining is a long-term business. It depends on running safely today, operating responsibly toward our surroundings, and planning ahead for a sector that continues to change.
HSE at the refinery
Process safety
A refinery is a continuous, high-temperature, high-pressure process. Units are monitored around the clock, startup and shutdown follow defined procedures, and deviations are investigated rather than worked around.
Occupational health
Safety rules apply equally to employees, contractors and visitors. Protective equipment, site inductions and clear rules on restricted areas are non-negotiable.
Emergency preparedness
Because the refinery runs 24/7, our emergency response line is staffed at all times, not only during office hours. Concerns are treated as urgent whenever they are raised.
Continuous monitoring
Operating conditions are tracked continuously, giving operators early warning of anything drifting outside its normal range, well before it becomes a safety or quality issue.
Operating responsibly
We treat our impact on the land, air and water around our facility as a standing responsibility rather than a compliance checkbox.
- MonitoringEmissions and effluent from our processing units are monitored.
- WasteWaste from operations and maintenance is managed responsibly.
- EfficiencyWe look for opportunities to reduce resource use as processes and equipment are upgraded.
Kazakhstan's refining sector is moving toward higher processing depth and cleaner fuel standards, including a national push toward Euro-5 grade fuels. We see that as the direction our own operations should move in too: producing fuel more efficiently and with a smaller footprint per unit of output.
Improving how we refine
Process monitoring
Continuous instrumentation across our units means deviations are caught and corrected early, rather than discovered downstream.
Laboratory methods
Our quality control processes are reviewed and updated as testing methods and product specifications evolve.
Continuous improvement
Maintenance and process data feed back into how units are run, so lessons from one part of the refinery inform the others.
Grow in step with what the process can support
Run the refinery reliably, keep product quality consistent, and grow in step with what the market and the process can actually support.
- Uptime firstPrioritizing uptime and consistent output before pursuing expansion.
- Reliability protectedInvesting in maintenance and monitoring so growth does not come at the expense of reliability.
- Focused on refiningOur growth plans are about processing capability and product quality, not adjacent businesses we do not run today.
The sector we operate in
Kazakhstan is Central Asia's largest oil producer. Most of the crude oil produced in the country is exported, while domestic refining capacity has historically lagged behind production.
That balance is shifting. The government has set out a national plan to expand domestic refining capacity, including the modernization of existing refineries and new processing capacity, alongside deeper petrochemical processing into products such as polypropylene and polyethylene.
As the sector expands and modernizes, we aim to grow and improve alongside it, contributing processing capacity, consistent product quality and reliable supply to the domestic fuel market.
