Refining process

Six connected stages, from crude oil to finished product

Each stage hands off to the next, and each has its own control point. This is how crude becomes diesel, gasoline and other finished fuels at our refinery.

Crude Receiving

Crude oil arrives at the refinery and is received, sampled and staged before entering the distillation process. Checking it first means downstream units always start from a known, consistent feedstock.

Input
Crude oil
Output
Sampled, staged feedstock
Control
Incoming crude is checked against expected characteristics before release into the process.

Distillation

Crude oil is heated and separated into fractions by boiling point inside our distillation column, forming the base feedstock for everything we produce. Every product we make traces back to this stage.

Crude distillation in detail

Input
Staged crude
Output
Fractions separated by boiling point
Control
Monitored temperature and pressure. Samples taken at multiple points.

Secondary Processing

Distilled fractions are further processed to convert them into higher-value fuels such as diesel and gasoline. This is what allows one barrel of crude to yield several different finished products.

Input
Distilled fractions
Output
Higher-value fuel components
Control
Each fraction treated according to what it needs to become. Samples sent to the laboratory.

Quality Control

Samples from every stage of processing are tested in our laboratory against the required product specifications. Testing methods are reviewed and updated as methods and specifications evolve.

Input
Samples from every stage
Output
Approval to proceed or hold
Control
Nothing moves forward, and nothing is dispatched, until the required checks are passed.

Fuel Blending

Processed components are blended to finished-product specification. Blending is where the individual processed streams come together into the exact grade a finished product requires.

Input
Processed components
Output
Finished grade
Control
Every blend verified against specification before storage and dispatch.

Storage & Dispatch

Finished products are held in tank storage under controlled conditions until they are dispatched to customers, so that supply stays reliable and predictable.

Input
Approved finished product
Output
Delivery to customers
Control
Controlled tank storage. Inventory and dispatch coordinated with the commercial team.
